We want everyone to have a great time at Jabberwocky and ask everyone to abide by our Rules of Play. These rules exist to ensure that everyone at Jabberwocky stays safe and happy. Acceptance of them is a condition of entry. Jabberwocky reserves the right to refuse admission.
We are here to provide a safe and clean environment for every guest – of whatever age – to enjoy and have fun. All children are allowed full use of the play equipment, specific to their age – baby area for those under 2 years and main play frame for those 2 and over – and activities available at the time of their visit.
For safety reasons, we kindly request that unless helping a child, adults do not go onto the play frame.
Our staff know their most important role is to help everyone enjoy their visit to Jabberwocky. However, supervision of children remains the sole responsibility of the accompanying adult. Also, since germs and sickness are best left at home, please bring any children who are sick or injured to enjoy Jabberwocky another day.
PAY TO PLAY
Entry cost qualifies guests for a single 90 minute session. Babies under the age of 1, adults and older children who do not wish to use the play frame are admitted free.
KEEPING JABBERWOCKY CLEAN
We take pride in our business and have invested in facilities to make sure we keep to the highest standards. To help us, please encourage all children to use the toilet before becoming distracted in play. Our toilets and baby change areas are inspected regularly. We ask that no food or drink is to be taken into the play area.
Shoes must be removed before entering the play areas and socks must be worn at all times. Please leave children’s shoes at reception, as this helps to keep the café area and play area clean. We ask that you remove any jewellery or potentially sharp objects before entering the play area or joining in play activities.
Our food hygiene regulations restrict the consumption of food and drink purchased elsewhere so, with the exception of baby food, only food and drink bought on the premises may be consumed. If you any have concerns about ingredients that may cause allergic reactions, please ask a member of our staff who will be able to advise on content.
FOR OUR YOUNGEST GUESTS
We have facilities to warm food or milk as needed. However we cannot be responsible for the temperature at which the food is given to your child. We are part of the Breastfeeding Friendly scheme and welcome nursing mothers.
Please use the facilities in the baby changing toilets for changing and disposal of nappies. Nappies can be purchased from reception.
State of the art technology has been installed at Jabberwocky to keep everyone safe and secure.
COMMON SENSE MANNERS
Obviously we can’t have any bullying at Jabberwocky, so anyone who shows persistently rough or unsociable behaviour will sadly be asked to leave, after one warning. This decision is entirely at the discretion of the management, and no refunds will be given.

Whilst every precaution is taken to ensure your time here is a positive and happy one, accidents may happen. Any accident must be reported to a member of staff and documented for our records. Our staff have access to First Aid and a trained First Aider is always available.

book your party
A magical place for kids, a relaxing space for parents – A great place for a party!
Jabberwocky is a unique dragon-themed soft play and cafe in picturesque Haddington, only 15 minutes along the A1 from Fort Kinnaird, Edinburgh. We have some great ideas to create the perfect party for your child, whatever their age! Have fun on the fantastic softplay, or create your own themed party in our sunny party room with our scrummy birthday teas. If you’d like to find out more, please complete our online booking form below or give us a call.
Choose your ideal party and we’ll arrange it all. We have softplay parties, Mad Hatter’s Tea Parties, magic or balloon modelling parties, mini-discos parties, arts and craft parties or Digital Ninja computer parties. And messy play parties for little ones. Or tell us your party ideas and we’ll help make it happen. You can add or leave out the softplay, depending on the age and interests of your child.
The 2-hour party price includes party invitations, balloons and thank you cards and for a small extra cost can include excellent value party bags. Younger children have one hour’s softplay, followed by the birthday tea in our party room. For older children we can arrange a fantastic 2 hour themed party. We cater for between 10 -25 children.
Our generous party spread has sandwiches, fairy cakes, sausage rolls, cocktail sausages, fruit slices, chocolate spoons, pom bears, crisps, rice cakes, popcorn, breadsticks and different flavours of squash. Your guests won’t go home hungry! Our home baking is all additive-free. Please tell us if your child or any of your guests have food allergies.
We advise a provisional booking to reserve your chosen date, which we can keep for one week. To confirm your booking, we ask for payment for the first 10 children and ask for your final numbers the week before your party. Booking early is always advisable, especially if you would like a specific date.
Party times are as follows: Saturdays 14.00- 16.00, Sundays 11.00- 13.00 or 14.00- 16.00, all other times on request. For smaller parties for a few children we can usually reserve tables in the cafe area at less busy times, and provide a smaller birthday tea. Please ask if you would prefer this option.
Jabberwocky is close to free parking all weekend and free 90-minute parking all week.
Interested? Give us some information and we’ll be able to give you a price to match your ideas and your budget.
You might be asking…
How do I know if you have space on the date I’d like to book?
Call in and ask, email us on firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone on 01620 248070. We advise a provisional booking to reserve your chosen date, which is confirmed on payment. A provisional booking lasts one week.
We recommend booking as early as possible, especially if you’d like an entertainer as they are often booked well in advance, especially during the summer and at Christmastime.
How do I book an entertainer?
We will check availability from our partner entertainers and arrange for them to contact you separately. All the entertainers we work with are recommended, fully insured and safety checked. It is not possible for customers to independently arrange their own entertainer for a Jabberwocky party.
When you choose one of our parties, our price depends on the options you choose. We will make all arrangements and give you a full breakdown at the time of booking so you can plan your party within your budget. The cost will include all food, room hire, soft play charges if required, invitations and thank you cards, party bags if required and VAT. Party invitations can be collected at the time of booking. Your invoice will not include costs of any entertainers. A minimum deposit of the party cost for 10 children is required to confirm the booking. The remainder is due for payment the week before the party takes place, when final numbers are known, so that you will never be presented with any extra charges on the party day. We reserve the right to re-let the space if payment is not made by the required date.
Can we book the entire soft play?
As we don’t want other customers to arrive and find the soft play is unavailable, this is not possible. However as we will know your party numbers in advance, at very busy times we may ask other customers to wait until the play frame is less busy. This ensures there will always be room for your party on the play frame, and that there are never too many children on the play frame at any one time.
What about the party food?
We provide a range of freshly-made sandwiches, snacks and cakes according to the number and ages of the children. According to our café policy, all our food is made from the best ingredients, locally sourced wherever possible, and additives- free. Please let us know if your party group has special dietary needs or allergies.
Do you provide birthday cakes?
We do not bake birthday cakes, as most guests prefer to bring their own.
Do I need to stay with the children?
We need at least one responsible adult with the birthday party at all times. We will sign in all children on arrival with their responsible adult. If parents or carers leave the premises during the party, the child will be the responsibilty of the party giver.
Our state of the art dragon playframe provides endless imaginative fun for children of 3 upwards, while our baby dragon’s egg nest provides a safe area for babies and under 2s, with parents’ seating close by. The unique playframe was specially designed and built for us and conforms to the very highest European and British safety standards. Our dressing up rail is there to add extra fun to children’s play.
Play is a healthy and essential part of every child’s life. It is vital for the enjoyment of childhood as well as social, emotional, intellectual and physical development. We are committed to providing quality play space for children and to providing a welcoming space for families to meet and socialise, acting as a focal point for the community. Our cheerful staff are always on hand to ensure all our guests are happy.

Jabberwocky is in the centre of the pretty East Lothian market town of Haddington. We are on the pedestrian area opposite the well sign-posted John Gray Centre Library and Museum on Lodge Street. Look for the dragon sign! We are committed to becoming a carbon-neutral business and have a Green Travel Plan and policy in place for our staff and customers, encouraging people where possible to choose active modes of travel to Jabberwocky. This is not only good for the environment, but good for health too! Haddington is great for cycling and there are bike racks directly in front of the building.
Because we are right in the centre, it’s easy to walk to us from anywhere in the town. We are well-served by regular buses, all of which stop at Court Street, Market Street and the High Street, which are a couple of minutes’ walk away. There is free 90 minutes car parking available on all surrounding streets. There is also ample free parking in the long stay car park behind Tesco, and at weekends the Council car parks, just around the corner on Neilson Park Road and Brewery St are open to the public at no charge. We are delighted that Jabberwocky is fully accessible to wheelchairs users. Local bus timetables can be found at Prentice Coaches, Borders Buses, East Coast Buses – 104 & 107 and Traveline Scotland
